How Old is that Hedgerow?

Many local hedgerows are very old indeed, but just how long have they been there?

The following simple equation will give you a rule of thumb date for your hedgerow.

Firstly measure a 30 metre length of hedgerow.

Then count the number of different species of woody plants in that length. ie Bushes and trees.

Multiply the number of species by 100.

The result will give you a rough estimate to the age of the hedgerow in hundreds of years.

It's as simple as that.
