The viaduct was built in the 1890’s at a cost of £65,000, it is on a curve leading to the River Trent crossing on steel girders. It consists of 59 arches containing in excess of 9,000,000 bricks and was later coupled via a link line to the power station. From the 1950’s until closure only one train at a time was allowed to cross on the viaduct.
